Kuumo Anaji
My Given Name is Richard Sanders Jr., but I am known Artistically as
Kuumo Anaji. I was given this name by an African, Artist, Friend of mine, which means Multi
Talented & in my case pertains to my expressions through Painting, Poetry & Playing Percussion
Instruments.
I'm a native New Yorker, born in Freeport Long Island & grew up in
Huntington. My father was an artist & started his sign business there in the early 40's. I was
never formally trained in sign painting or the free style painting that I do now, but after his
death in 1971, I started my own sign business, which I operated until medically retiring
in 2000. I moved to Charlotte, SC, where while dabbling during recuperation, my artwork was
accidently discovered & I was offered a One Artist Show. Since then I've enjoyed the Freedom
of Expression, that Afro centric Abstract Painting offers me.
I also hand paint vases, using my own technique that leaves them
looking like ceramics. It's said that I paint anything that doesn't move! This takes place at my
apt/studio/gallery, where you are welcome to call, make an appointment & stop in.
( 7 days - eves), 10108 Menaul Blvd. NE, 299-2449. I hope that you enjoy my artwork, as much
as I enjoy living & creating it.
Thank You! / Kuumo
