Artist of the Month
The art of Judith Shaw was
displayed from October 28th through November 25th, 2007.
Artist Bio
Judith
Shaw, a graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute, has been
interested in myth, culture and mystical studies all her life. This
interest, combined with a deep spirituality, figures strongly in her
work. Originally from New Orleans, she has traveled in Mexico, Central
America, China, Europe and Greece and lived in Mexico and Greece. The
passion and bright colors of many of these places have affected her
palette and style. Judith has also studied dance, primarily Haitian
dance and bellydance. Dance is an important expression of her belief in
body and soul as one whole. Much of her work reflects the movement and
rhythm of dance.
Judith has resided in New Mexico for the past fifteen years. The golden glow of the landscape is reflected in her paintings. She has developed a style uniquely her own which she calls "Mythic Expressionism". Recently she has begun to explore sacred geometry. Her current work combines her older symbolic, figurative work with her interest in sacred geometry. Artist Statement of Intent
My
work has been deeply affected by my studies of myth and ancient
cultures. The work is layered with ancient symbols and modern processes.
My style is one of abandon within control. The images are discovered in the process of painting, maintaining a fine balance between control and letting go. The underlying theme of all of the work is of the interconnectedness of all life. The work expresses my belief in a world where spirit manifests in physical form. The work is layered - with paint; with feelings of ... .... body and soul as one whole... .... the indescribable nature of another dimension... .... the interconnectedness of all life... -------------------------------------------- Any local artist is encouraged to display their art at O'Niell's Pub. Art is displayed for one month, during which we host an Artist's Reception so the public can meet the artist. Contact art08@oniells.com to set up an interview. |
