Artist's Statement
Fetish
Thanks Rob, Seth, and the rest of the gang here – for starters, it’s cool to be the opening artists for ’08. Plus, it’s just cool to be showing at O’Niell’s. I hope you all re- mind me when I’m rich and famous to show here again! As some of you know, college for me was writing and math. Yuck. Art is what I’ve done since I can remember. I do it because I love it, and most importantly, because it’s a language that says things my words can’t. I like drawing small sketches about places and people. I like smearing paint around and capturing moods. I also REALLY love turning drawings by hand into digital art. The range of what I’m interested in is really big, and I tried to escape myself for a bit this month and pick the most emotional diverse pictures to share with you, some of which I thought I’d never show. ‘Fetish’ means ‘irrational devotion to,’ to put it simply. I know I’m not supposed to give that away, like my dad used to say when I’d ask what a word meant. ‘Go look it up!’ he’d bark, pointing in some general direction where a dictionary might lurk. So, I’m not pointing. I genuinely want you to see what I’m irrationally devoted to. The stars, rebirth, love, romance, beauty, spontaneity, you know – the stuff that makes the world go round. Any local artist is encouraged to display their art at O'Niell's Pub. Art is displayed for one month, during which we host an Artist's Reception so the public can meet the artist.
